    The request procedure.

    • The requester must comply with all procedural requirements of the Promotion of Access to Information Act.
    • The requester must request information in writing, on the form published in Government Notice R187 of 15 February 2002.  If the requester is unable to read or write or is disabled, an oral request may be submitted to us and we will complete the required form on behalf of the requester and give him/her a copy.
    • The requester must indicate whether a copy of the requested information is needed and the format of such copy, or whether the requester wants to view the record at our offices and in what format such viewable record must be, or whether the requester wants the information to be given telephonically.
    • The requester must not interfere unreasonably with the running of our business or damage the record or infringe copyright not owned by the State.
    • If the requester wants the information on behalf of someone else, the capacity in which the requester is requesting the information must be indicated.
    • For requests excluding personal information about the requester, a request fee of R50,00 per request is applicable, payable in cash.  In addition, the requester must pay the costs involved in the reproduction and preparation of the requested information.

    The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has not made any regulations in this regard.



    Availability of the Manual

    This manual is available for inspection at our offices free of charge.  A copy is also available from the South African Human Rights Commission.
